Champagne Dub is a mission in space-dub whose ‘crew’ took a few too many wrong turns. “We are here to bring raw metamorphic rock-rituals that escaped our minds.”

The bubbling alchemy of this wildly oscillating four piece is as ethereally potent as the perfected elements that swirl in it’s climatic maelstrom.

Betamax (Comet is Coming / Soccer 96 / Coma World) drew Goller, Noodles and Ed into Catto’s studio and cut loose across the realms of sonic booms and poly-rhythms.
Mr Noodles, the Peruvian Performance artist cuts an uncomfortable figure in the recording studio. Kinetic energy flowing from a spring of mysteriously paranoid fits of spontaneous movement, Noodles is vulnerable and dangerous. Cryptic words are spunked from the subconscious and lie scattered across the band’s rhythmic engine-room. Ruth Goller’s bass tones geometrically tumble over the cluttered floor of Betamax’s dirty drums and percussion.

Turn to Ed Briggs, the medieval sound scientist, convulsing in the corner as his unreliable, self-assembled electronics drain the remaining energy from what seems to be a living but barely-live power source, spewing their sonic debris at the spinning wheels of tape delay.

Joining On the Corner as the label heads full steam to 10 years of Interstellar Sound, Champagne Dub continue in the label's vein of supporting works of sonic bravery and gesamtkunstwerk.

Imagine A Certain Ratio transported to the Medina of Marrakesh with Adrian Sherwood at the controls, and you are halfway to the musical maelstroms, nyabinghi-style drums, a soup of synth drones. Their infectious grooves: take the voodoo disco (energy and) the group’s dislocated dance music continues with Liquid Liquid-style percussion, booming bass, and a cascading synth hook reminiscent of Joey Beltram’s rave anthem “Energy Flash.”

Music is great, but given up on this label now. This is the last physical order I make. Never respond to enquires, never send out orders. No communication. Either put up genuine shipping dates or don't offer physical product that you can't deliver. Even when they do finally ship (I should add items marked as available NOT preorders that I get can be delayed) they forget to add in promo gifts that were promised such as on BC Fridays. I can't speak to the lyrics, but I really like this manifestation of electronic lounge music and North African drums and vocals. It's good late night chill music, not downtempo but energetic in a laid back way musically. Gaelan D'costa
